Post Oyingbo Stress Disorder
Yes you read that right...
When we were kids, some uncles had this crazy belief that if you could drive in Lagos, you could drive anywhere Babanla irọ! If you can drive well in Lagos I guarantee you will not pass any standardized driving tests in the West on the first try.
Lagos drivers have such poor situational awareness that the only way they can parallel park is if security yells “Cut your hand” (they mean ‘cut the wheel’ but do you see where I’m going with this?). Anyway, my car got hit and dragged almost under a truck last Saturday because a terrible driver saw my indicator and assumed I was trying to get ahead of him in life. Well, he almost got mobbed by witnesses and street thugs because he tried to run away after causing so much damage. This situation ended with some good old misogyny when they asked me to call my husband otherwise I’d get cheated. I called the closest male acquaintance to my location and asked to freshen up at his place thereafter, guess what? I walked in on a topless woman who did not hesitate to express her displeasure with a selection of angsty songs on the loudest speaker volume until I left. Let’s just say Saturday was a bad day.
On a brighter note, my week was filled with pockets of joy as my colleagues rallied around me with hugs, funds and good vibes when we got back to work. In the most random sequence of events, another friend invited me to a gym closer to my place and I obliged to keep my intrusive thoughts from winning but working out gave me a ridiculous amount of joy so I will be getting 2 days of health-friendly endorphins in addition to what my friends and family contribute regularly. I hope the ones that read this know how much I love them (I’d move the earth out of its orbit if it’ll bring them joy fr!)

Salsa (yes, I said this one before): Tonight’s salsa was different because I finally met a Bumble Match I made in 2021 by taking a risk to succeed. Get this, she planned to finally leave Lagos this morning but she overslept and missed her flight. It ended up being one of my favourite dance classes ever!
Keeping this one short and cute because I’m literally wrecking my eyesight to get it out in due time (thank goodness this keyboard has a backlight function). Live intentionally, readers… the world is sucky but you don’t have to be.
Stay jiggy
xx
