Cue in SZA’s “Ghost in the Machine” because someone is starting the year in the dumps. Being accountable was much harder than I thought it would be. Why were we so keen on adulthood as children? it’s so boring and stressful. This week drained me!
I ended last week going to fetch my brother from the clutches of the Nigerian Bullying Force and their attempt at enforcing checks at an illegal checkpoint. Thankfully everyone moved on safely. In the spirit of “not greeing” I also called bullshit against my dad’s doctor (and friend) for being a grossly unreliable healthcare professional. It took him a whooping 5mins to read and forward the message to my dad (because I’m too ‘small’ for him to face). my lesson from these experiences will be summed up by my professor uncle 2 days later in these words “You cannot be a party to your own oppression”.
This week I also confirmed feedback about my behaviour in relationships with men. I have a big ego🎶🎶. It was definitely a novel discovery since I typically find myself gravitating towards people-pleasing in general but something changed last year. My energy this year is rubbish-proof! I don’t care what your station in life is or what you think you might be doing for me, you will do the right thing or get out of my face.
You know how sometimes you get chummy with your colleagues and jokes get too far? this week there was a heist (check the price of an M3 in NGN before you proceed)at the hub and the victim thought it was a prank since they had pranked other people with smaller things… Crazy stuff!
In less angsty news, I now close my activity rings daily and my sleep pattern is so much better for it. I’m still struggling with my studies but we’ll try again this weekend since the access roads to leave home are closed. This is a really short one but I hope you all had a better week than I did.
Two Things I enjoyed this week…
I went down the rabbit hole of early 2000’s chick flicks to find joy and found 2 movies:
Good Luck Chuck (don’t get any ideas with the sex scenes… nobody enjoys sex like that) I had a good laugh with this one
A VR arcade (won’t be going back to this one since their staff stalked me on Instagram but it’s a lovely adrenaline-release activity so go with a group of energetic joy-seekers)
Finally, I want to attend a group dance evening party like a salsa night or kizomba kini kan to spark joy. Send me recommendations in Lagos Island loves!
Stay jiggy
xx
