Never be Afraid Again
I finally saw Beyonce’s Homecoming and it gave me a new perspective on repetition. How? walk with me, I may not explain.
It’s that time of the year when most of us hyper-focus on our somewhat ambitious resolutions and convince ourselves that we’ll keep up the energy all year only to fall off a few weeks or months after. Don’t worry I’m right on the table with y’all, in this clurrb we all fam. This year however I’d like to leave that table and place all bets on myself like I did in 2021 (when I switched to cybersecurity from Law) except this time I don’t want to make a career change, this time I’m doubling down to certify all the skills I gathered over the past two years in the “Tech for Social Good” industry. I know it sounds just as ambiguous as ambitious, which brings me to my appreciation for repetition.
Beyonce said something about how dance practice makes you humble and to be better, you have to be comfortable with looking awkward/weird till you perfect your choreography or something. Do you know why this resonated with me? I’ve tried my hands at many things and given up on many too, but one thing remained the same. I always got past the awkward phase before deciding it wasn’t for me. The allure of quitting when you look or feel odd at something new is your brain’s natural response to change. Discomfort is a catalyst for growth as far as I’m concerned so I’m leaning into it this time. let’s see how far I’ll get with it this time.
I learned how long it takes to climb cough cough die on Everest and I agree with the commenters who urged billionaires to make it a challenge. The vim that makes you amass wealth with the potential to improve the life of a significant percentage of the world’s population for personal fulfilment is the exact kind that makes people climb up an almost sure death trap for $50k+. Someone described it as a cemetery with no graves. It makes one wonder why any well-adjusted adult would knowingly climb past so many dead bodies to prove some bullshit to themselves about being driven or whatever. Who made it cool even?
While watching Homecoming I realised just how much sacrifice it takes to be excellent at anything. Most people will not get it until the final result comes out perfect, now imagine never getting to perfection or never realising your potential to do great things? that’s a real loss. The world needs to experience your greatness one way or another. Who knows? someone might get inspired by you to be even greater! get out there and do some awkward shit that might end up being great.
Anyway, I created a “that girl” playlist with some of my favourite girl power tracks in case I forgot the lessons from Homecoming and started slacking. This year I wan do pass myself, collect Ceaser’s resources and pack all that glitters. We’ll figure out what’s gold when I get home abeg.
Things I enjoyed this week…
Cleaning House figuratively
Janelle Monae’s Dirty Computer Album (I Like That is my favourite track)
Catching up with my women especially one I haven’t been in touch with for months.

Watching Beyonce’s Homecoming
Writing this blog that had absolutely nothing to do with the title just for kicks. I hope someone gets the title reference (Do comment if you did)
Nothing motivational this week, check back next week. Until then…
Stay jiggy
